Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'
Product Description Of Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'
Botanical Name: Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'
Common Name: Aeonium 'Black Rose', Black Aeonium, Black Rose Aeonium
Origin: Canary Islands
🌟 Description:
Aeonium 'Black Rose' is a stunning succulent shrub known for its dramatic, almost black rosettes that resemble large roses. The deep burgundy-purple foliage becomes nearly black in full sun, especially during dry seasons or cooler weather. Each rosette sits atop a branching, woody stem, giving it a sculptural, tree-like form.
In late spring or summer, mature plants may produce eye-catching yellow star-shaped flowers on tall stalks, contrasting beautifully against the dark foliage. Ideal for pots, succulent landscapes, or modern gardens, this variety adds bold colour and height to any collection.
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. The more sun it receives, the darker and more vibrant the foliage becomes. Protect from extreme afternoon heat.
Water:
Water when the topsoil feels dry. During active growth (cooler months), water regularly. In summer dormancy, reduce watering significantly.
Humidity:
Prefers dry air. Avoid high humidity or poor air circulation.
Temperature:
Grows best between 15°C to 24°C (59°F–75°F). Not frost-tolerant—bring indoors or protect during cold spells.
Soil:
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Raised beds or pots with drainage holes are ideal.
Fertiliser:
Feed once a month in spring and autumn with a diluted succulent fertiliser. Avoid feeding during summer dormancy.
Pet Friendly:
❌ Caution: May be toxic if ingested by pets or children. Best kept out of reach.
