Common Name: Devil’s Ivy, Money Plant, Pothos
Origin: Native to the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific
Description:
Pothos is one of the most loved and low-maintenance indoor plants out there. With its heart-shaped, glossy green leaves—often variegated with yellow, white, or pale green—this vining beauty is a favorite for both new and experienced plant parents. Its cascading growth makes it perfect for hanging baskets, shelf displays, or even trailing from a tall plant stand.
Nicknamed “Devil’s Ivy” for its hard-to-kill nature, it’s incredibly adaptable and brings an instant lush, tropical feel to any indoor setting. It’s also known as the Money Plant in many cultures, believed to bring prosperity and good energy.
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Pothos thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate low-light areas too. Avoid direct sunlight as it may scorch the leaves.
Water:
Water only when the top inch of soil feels dry. Pothos prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. Be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot.
Humidity:
Average household humidity is fine, but it will appreciate the occasional misting in drier environments.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is between 18°C to 30°C (65°F to 86°F). Keep away from cold drafts and avoid placing it near air conditioners or heaters.
Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix. A standard indoor mix with perlite or coco coir works perfectly.
Fertiliser:
Feed with a liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). No need to fertilise in winter.
Pet Friendly:
❌ No. Pothos is toxic if ingested by cats, dogs, or humans, so keep it out of reach of curious pets and little ones.
