Product Description Of Canberra Bonsai Making Workshop

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of bonsai? Our Beginner Bonsai Workshop in Canberra is the perfect place to get started!

Bonsai is the ancient Japanese art of growing and shaping miniature trees in containers. More than simply caring for a small tree, bonsai is a slow, mindful practice that encourages us to connect with nature, creativity, and patience.

In this hands-on beginner class, you’ll step into a calm and relaxing environment where you’ll learn the fundamentals of bonsai and create your very own tree to take home.

The word bonsai comes from the Japanese words “bon”, meaning tray or pot, and “sai”, meaning plant or planting. The art involves carefully guiding a tree’s growth through techniques such as pruning, wiring, root management, and growing it within a suitable container.

We’ll introduce you to the principles behind bonsai and explain how a miniature tree can be shaped to reflect the form and character of a mature tree in nature.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Select the right outdoor tree for bonsai
  • Choose a suitable bonsai pot or ceramic tray
  • Understand basic bonsai styles and how to create your desired shape
  • Learn beginner-friendly wiring techniques
  • Understand the principles of repotting
  • Learn how and when to prune branches and roots
  • Understand watering, light, and ongoing bonsai care
  • Maintain and nurture your bonsai as it grows and develops

During the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to work hands-on with your own bonsai tree, with guidance throughout the process. You’ll learn how to make thoughtful decisions about its shape and structure while developing the confidence to continue caring for it at home.

Bonsai trees can be nurtured for many years and are often passed down through generations as living heirlooms — representing patience, serenity, growth, and a connection to nature.
