Pick Up Only

Common Name: Black Bean Tree
Botanical Name: Castanospermum australe
Origin: Eastern Australia

The Black Bean Tree is a striking Australian native known for its glossy, deep green foliage and naturally upright growth. Also called the Moreton Bay Chestnut, it can develop into a large tree outdoors but makes an attractive young indoor plant when provided with bright light and suitable conditions.

Its lush foliage brings a tropical, architectural feel indoors, making it a beautiful choice for adding height and greenery to homes, offices and larger spaces. As it matures, the plant can develop a strong woody trunk and impressive tree-like form.

🌱 Care Guide

☀️ Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some gentle morning or filtered sunlight but avoid harsh afternoon sun indoors.

💧 Water:
Water when the top few centimetres of soil begin to dry. Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.

💦 Humidity:
Enjoys moderate humidity and appreciates good airflow. It generally adapts well to normal indoor humidity.

🌡️ Temperature:
Prefers warm conditions between 18–30°C. Protect from cold temperatures and sudden temperature changes.

🪴 Soil:
Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. Good drainage is important to prevent waterlogged roots.

🌿 Fertiliser:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth. Reduce feeding during cooler months.

🐾 Pet Friendly:
No. The seeds and other parts of the Black Bean Tree can be toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.
