Common Name: Candle Stick Plant, Pickle Plant
Origin: Native to South Africa
Description:
The Senecio Stapeliiformis, affectionately known as the Candle Stick Plant, is a quirky and sculptural succulent with long, upright stems patterned in green and purple markings. Its tall, cylindrical stems resemble candles or pickles, and during summer it can surprise you with vibrant orange-red, star-shaped flowers.
This unusual succulent adds a playful architectural element to your plant shelf or window sill. It's drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and a conversation starter for sure!
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Loves bright light! Place in a sunny spot with at least 4–6 hours of direct or bright filtered light daily. A north- or west-facing window is ideal.
Water:
Water deeply but only when the soil is completely dry. In warmer months, this might be every 2–3 weeks. In winter, water even less frequently. Avoid overwatering—succulents hate soggy soil.
Humidity:
Not fussy! Candle Stick Plant prefers low to moderate humidity and handles dry indoor air with ease.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm environments between 18°C to 27°C (65°F to 80°F). Keep it away from frost and cold drafts.
Soil:
Needs excellent drainage. Use a cactus or succulent potting mix with added sand or perlite.
Fertiliser:
Feed once a month during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser. Skip feeding in winter.
Pet Friendly:
❌ No. Like many succulents, this plant is considered mildly toxic if ingested. Best kept out of reach of pets and young children.
