Common Name: Polka Dot Begonia, Angel Wings
Origin: Native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil
Description:
Begonia Maculata 'Wightii', often called Angel Wings or Polka Dot Begonia, is a true showstopper. With its olive-green leaves dotted with silver spots and deep red undersides, this begonia looks like it belongs in an art gallery. The wing-shaped foliage gives it a graceful, floating appearance—hence the name "Angel Wings."
This plant brings instant drama and elegance to your indoor collection. With the right care, it may reward you with clusters of delicate white or pale pink flowers that dangle like earrings from its stems.
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch its delicate leaves, while too little can dull its colours and reduce flowering.
Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm (about an inch) of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Begonias are prone to root rot, so ensure good drainage and avoid letting water sit at the base.
Humidity:
Loves high humidity. Use a pebble tray, mist regularly, or place near a humidifier—especially during winter or in dry indoor air.
Temperature:
Ideal range is 18°C to 26°C (65°F to 79°F). Keep away from drafts and sudden temperature drops.
Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix—something rich yet airy. A mix of potting soil with perlite or orchid bark works beautifully.
Fertiliser:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring through early autumn) with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser.
Pet Friendly:
❌ No. Begonia Maculata is toxic to pets if ingested. Best kept out of reach of cats and dogs.
