These tips will be helpful for both beginners and those with some experience caring for plants.
- First, when choosing a plant, always ask the store assistant or plant expert for care instructions and whether it’s easy to maintain. We often pick pretty plants like Begonias or Alocasias, which can be tricky and may die without proper care.
- Second, always use an indoor potting mix. If buying from Bunnings (though their quality isn’t the best), I suggest mixing 1/3 perlite and 2/3 indoor potting mix for a better blend. We also offer high-quality indoor potting mix at our store.
- A common mistake is repotting directly into a ceramic pot because it looks good. Ceramic pots lack aeration, which can suffocate the roots. Instead, repot into a nursery pot (the black or green plastic ones), then place it inside the ceramic pot for aesthetics.
- Also, be sure to use a liquid indoor plant fertilizer every two weeks during spring and summer, and reduce it to once a month in autumn and winter to support healthy growth.
- Lastly, water your plants only when the soil is dry, not on a set schedule. If the top looks dry, wait one more day before watering. Inconsistent watering leads to yellow leaves or brown edges.
These small adjustments will make a big difference! Happy growing :)
